The united republic of Tanzania has several universities which shape students to meet the demand of the market and build their carrier by obtaining the required knowledge which develops competencies and skills necessary for daily life problem-solving.

 

There are many universities that provide education and prepare students for the competitive market but here is the list of top universities in Tanzania which suit for carrier development, 


  1. UNIVERSITY OF DAR ES SALAAM.

The oldest and premier public university in Tanzania. It is situated 13 kilometers on the western side of the city of Dar es Salaam, occupying 1,625 acres on the observation hill, famously known as Mlimani in Kiswahili. 


It was established on 25th October 1961 as the University College Dar es Salaam (UCD), an affiliated college of the University of London.

  1. SOKOINE UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE  

The Sokoine University of Agriculture was first established on the 1st of July 1984 by Parliamentary Act No. 14 of 1984 through the amendment of Parliamentary Act No 6 of the same year. 


Following repealing of the Act, the university is now operating through the Sokoine University of Agriculture Charter, 2007 through the broad framework of the Universities Act, 2005.


The university was named Sokoine University of Agriculture in honor of then Prime Minister of Tanzania Edward Moringe Sokoine who died in 1984.

  1. MHIMBILI UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH AND ALLIED SCIENCE. 

The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) started as the Dar es Salaam medical school in 1963. 


The school then transformed into the faculty of medicine of the University of Dar es Salaam in 1991 was upgraded and became a college–the Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences (MUCHS).


Over the years MUCHS made significant achievements in terms of increased student enrollment and development of several new academic programs. 


The Parliament Act No 9 of 1991 that established MUCHS was repealed in 2005 through the Universities Act No 7 of 2005. Subsequently, in 2007Article 1 of the Charter of Incorporation established MUHAS; in line with the Universities Act no 7 of 2005.

  1. UNIVERSITY OF DODOMA

The University of Dodoma (UDOM) was established in the year 2007. It is located approximately 7 kilometers east of Dodoma city covering 6,000 hectares. 


It is the unique university in Tanzania because it is the largest in the country aiming at enrolling 40,000 students at a time when its infrastructures will be completed.

  1. THE NELSON MANDELA AFRICAN INSTITUTION OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) in Arusha is one in a network of Pan-African Institutions of Science and Technology located across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). 


These institutions, which are the proud brainchild of the late Nelson Mandela, envision training and developing the next generation of African scientists and engineers with a view to impacting profoundly the continent's development through the application of Science, Engineering Technology, and Innovation (SETI).


University location: Arusha Tanzania.


  1. MZUMBE UNIVERSITY

Mzumbe University was established by the Mzumbe University Charter, 2007 under Section 25 of the Universities Act. No. 7 of 2005 which repealed the Mzumbe University Act. No 9 of 2001. 


As a Training Institute, the University boasts over 50 years experience of in training in the administration of justice, business management, public administration, accountancy, finance, political science, and good governance.


University location: Morogoro Tanzania.


  1. ST. AUGUSTINE UNIVERSITY OF TANZANIA

St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) was established in 1998. It is the successor of the Nyegezi Social Training Institute (NSTI) founded in 1960 by the Catholic White Fathers (currently known as the Missionaries of Africa). 


This was under the initiative of Bishop Joseph Blomjous of the Mwanza Diocese.


The University extends to over 600 acres in the Nyegezi- Malimbe area 10 km south of Mwanza City. It lies 4 km off the Mwanza- Shinyanga road on the shores of Lake Victoria. 


As part of Tanzania’s central highlands (1140 m above sea level), the area to the south of Lake Victoria is noted for its moderate temperatures. Mwanza can be reached from other parts of Tanzania and East Africa by train, air, ferry, and highways.

  1. TUMAINI UNIVERSITY MAKUMIRA

Tumaini University Makumira (TUMA), formerly Lutheran Theological College Makumira, is the main campus of Tumaini University Makumira, the University of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) established in 1997. We are located in northern Tanzania (East Africa).


University location: Arusha Tanzania.


  1. CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH AND ALLIED SCIENCE 

CUHAS-Bugando, as a Constituent University College of SAUT, became operational in September 2003. 


It was granted a Certificate of Interim Authority (CIA) on the 28th of March 2002 and a Certificate of Provisional Registration (CPR) on the 27th of March 2003. 


By 2005 the College was firmly established and accorded full registration status by the Tanzania Commission of Universities (TCU). 


University location: Mwanza Tanzania.


  1. ARDHI UNIVERSITY

Ardhi University Campus is located in Dar es Salaam along University Road adjacent to the University of Dar es Salaam approx. 12.00 Kilometres from the Dar es Salaam City Centre. 


 The University is within the proximity of several other academic Institutions, viz; Rwegarulila Water Resources Institute, The National Institute of Transport, The Institute of Social Welfare, and the National Tax Institute.

  1. STATE UNIVERSITY OF ZANZIBAR 

The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) was established by Act No. 8 of 1999 of the Zanzibar House of Representatives which was then amended by Act No. 11 of 2009, and further re-amended by Act No. 7 of 2016. 


The latter amendment has justified SUZA to merge with other Zanzibar higher learning institutions; these are the then Zanzibar Institute of Financial Administration (ZIFA), College of Health Sciences (CHS), and the Zanzibar Institute of Tourism Development (ZIToD). 


His Excellency Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein, the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council is the Chancellor of the University. The University became operational in September 2001.
